Interview with Ku De Ta

Here at Mugatunes we pride ourselves on bringing you the best artists you’ve never heard of. What better way to do that than get in touch with the producers themselves? Mugatunes will be bringing you new installments of interviews with up-and-coming artists that have created some of the freshest tracks you’ve never heard.

Without further ado, Mugatunes’ first interview guest is Ku De Ta.

Hailing from London, Ku De Ta is comprised of a pair of producers who genuinely love their music and their fans. As a group, the duo is less than a year old, but individually the men behind the music have a considerable amount of production experience. Ku De Ta dropped their first track, What’s Going On,” back in April 2014 but their more recent breakout hits have resonated throughout the music world. First, they released Been A Long Time in November and came out with Unfoolish 2015 in mid-January. Their music is a perfect blend of deep house, electronic vibes, good-ass bass and usually features some incredible vocals that create unique and infectious songs.

The pair was kind enough to spend some time with FJS of the Mugatunes crew to drop some knowledge on how they do what they do.

Mugatunes’ FJS: Tell us about yourself. When did you decide that you wanted to produce? When did you start producing?

Ku De Ta: We are two DJ’s from the UK who have spent their entire life working as DJ’s. Playing all over the world, in some of the best clubs as well as holding down our own individual residencies. We met at a gig and soon became close friends through our love of music and all things electronic, exchanging tracks and constantly competing over who had the best and most sought after records. We both had been producing from some time under different aliases, we would talk about various ideas we had for tracks at gigs we were playing at and about a year ago we just decided to lock ourselves in the studio and lay some bits down. It took a few sessions for us to adapt to each others working style but when we did we found we worked really well together.

Mugatunes’ FJS: What music did you grow up listening to? Which artists/producers/DJs have influenced you?

Ku De Ta: Haha as we play out several times a week and have for quite a few years our influences are far and wide ranging from Todd Terry, Masters At Work & Kraftwork to Green Velvet, Todd Edwards, Disclosure & A.M.E.

Mugatunes’ FJS: What are some of your favorite tracks at the moment?

Ku De Ta: Wow, hard question to ask DJ’s. Tunes we can both agree that we really like-

Something About You – Hayden James, Right Now - Shadow Child Remix, New Dorp. New York - SBTRKT ft. Ezra Koenig, Conjure Dreams - Maceo Plex, Rhymes - Hannah Wants & Chris Lorenzo, Knockin' Boots - Julio Bashmore, Burnin’ Up (KANT Remix), Crocodile Tears – GRADES, Anything Low Steppa.

Mugatunes’ FJS: How would you describe your music?

Ku De Ta: We have a few tracks sitting on the back burner at the moment, a couple of songs that are quite different to what we usually do so are deciding whether to release them under another alias or just let them loose on the world. We have literally just wrapped up a massive sounding remix classic house record that is our favorite remix we have done so far. We are currently on the hunt for singer songwriters to feature on our tracks so if you or any of your readers know anyone be sure to send them our way!

Mugatunes’ FJS:  Is there anything specific you want to convey to your listeners? If so, what is it?

Ku De Ta: Get in touch, let us know what you think of our tracks we can only get better if you tell us what you want! Don’t follow the crowd, if something tickles you dance your legs off to it.

There you have it. Be sure to give them a listen and follow them on social media so when they drop their newest hits, you’ll be the first to know.
